In the early 90’s I recorded a mixtape called Sector 101, it was popular for some time and I got to play part of this set on Power Toolz 106 FM which was a DJ radio show broadcast in Los Angeles on Saturday nights (this is where I met Richard Humpty-Vision, Tony B, Sweedish Egil, and Gerry Meraz). This is also when I started to play DJ sets on Sweedish Egil’s Groove Radio and KSPC. Back then DJs were making lots of mixtapes to hand out to promoters and fans, it was like a DJ’s business card. We also had to deal with the 90 minute hard time limit, 45 minutes per side of an audio cassette tape, which was pretty annoying. In 2023 I decided to continue this mixtape series and released Sector 303, Sector 606, Sector 808, Sector 909, and now here is the 6th mix in the series, Sector 1000! This mix is also in honor of the amazing Roland TR-1000 Rhythm Composer which I recently added to my Ableton hybrid kit, and plan to perform with it live one day.
